Our Green Movement just took a huge step in the realm of renewable energy!
Proudly and excitedly, we can certainly say that our days are looking brighter, steamier and greener, as we welcome the newest member in the SM family: The Philippine Geothermal Production Company, Inc. (PGPC).
PGPC operates the Tiwi and Mak-Ban steam fields, with Tiwi as the first commercial-scale geothermal steam field development in Southeast Asia, followed by Mak-Ban, which have both been in operation since 1979.
Together, they generate geothermal steam sufficient to produce approximately 300 MW of electricity. PGPC is expected to generate significant carbon offsets reported under the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework.
Coming from the heat of the Earth’s core, geothermal energy is cleaner, renewable, and infinitely more sustainable.
“As a leading sustainability advocate, SMIC is pleased to invest directly in clean renewable energy-related production, which is a national priority and aligned with our commitments to environmental stewardship and to tackling climate change,” said Frederic C. DyBuncio, President and CEO of SM Investments Corporation (SMIC).
At SM, we’re reimagining our future and it’s looking green, indeed!
